The glass and temperature

The glass

Drinking cognac is often associated with the balloon glass which is a very beautiful glass and has almost become icon in itself. Unfortunately the balloon glass has a bowl that is rather useless for the purpose of drinking cognac as the surface is much too large. The reason for not wanting a too large surface is that you do not want too much evaporation and thereby allowing flavors and alcohol) to be lost. The simple rule is that you need a glass with a top that is narrower than the bottom and at the same time with a too large surface. The perfect glass is therefore the a tulip shaped glass

Temperature

The ideal temperature for cognac being served is between 15ºC and 18ºC. If the cognac is too warm it will evaporate to quickly loosing taste and flavors.
